Here are the findings from an investigation conducted by The Washington Post for two years. The report entitled "Top Secret America" talks about an alternative geography of the United States hidden from the public. This is part of the response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. A world created by the government that is hidden from the public has become so large. No one knows just how many people are employed, how many programs there are, and how much is spent.
Findings in the report indicated some 1,271 government organizations and 1,931 private companies involved in counter terrorism programs, homeland security and intelligence. As many as 845,000 people have access to top-secret security clearances. Washington has 33 building complexes that have been built since 2001. Its combined area is equivalent to three Pentagons, which is approximately 17 million square feet. Numerous intelligence and security divisions conduct the same operations which leads to waste and redundancy. Conversations and documents are analyzed in reports. Their yearly volume adds up to a total 50,000. Since this number is so large, many of the reports are routinely ignored.
At first glance, it seems as if the Post was valiant enough in creating an expose on the government. In Joel Skousen's World Affairs Brief in July 23, 2010, he disagreed saying that the information only enticed readers to purchase the paper but did almost nothing to expose the government's abusive and illegal ways. According to Mr. Skousen, in reality the government directs its spying activities to allies and patriotic American fearing a rebellion against the growing totalitarian state.
Skousen continues to claim that there is a "dark side" to all of this. The hidden budgets, false stories, compartmentalization, and front activities deceive honest employees from knowing the truth. If and when people start asking questions, they are subtly warned which discourages the raising of questions.
The New World Order is what should have been exposed in the report says Skousen. The Post should have made the connections between certain companies and mercenary contractors who support the agendas of the government to which he compares the Nazis. People will be forced into compliance to do the government's bidding. Eventually, these will be used to threaten liberties in the country.
